Kristina Fetkovich was born and raised out on the East End of Long Island in the time of potatoes and duck farms. She was introduced to Photography when she was 16; given her surroundings, she mostly photographed old decaying barns. Attending college in the mid-90s, she was given a strong base in an industry that was about to change drastically with the onslaught of digitized imagery. She figured out the new medium and moved onward. Having spent 10 years in Manhattan’s Fashion District, in 2014 she got the opportunity to work for the NYPD as a mug-shot photographer. Exposure to the utilitarian imagery of the Police Department has dramatically influenced Kristina’s work.
